I’m Maddy Dullum. Born and raised in Gig Harbor, Washington, I love the Pacific Northwest. I was brought up in a fairly musical family, and music is in my blood.
I started performing at a young age, engaging in local community theatres and singing with church bands. Some of my most favorite roles from my experience with the theatre include Annie in Annie!, Ariel in The Little Mermaid, Little Red Ridinghood in Into The Woods, and even Gollum in The Hobbit.
I took piano lessons from my grandma, my dad’s mom, when I was about 8 years old. Like most kids, I hated taking lessons. I’m glad my dad, who’s a phenomenal jazz/fusion pianist, encouraged me to keep with it.
At about 18 years old, I started taking my keyboard to various restaurants and coffee shops. Getting paid to sing? What a concept! I continued providing entertainment to local venues as I began to broaden my reach a bit: booking shows at small festivals, fundraisers, and of course, weddings. I even took a self proclaimed ‘tour’ from Seattle down to San Francisco, playing at any venue I could get myself into.
Meanwhile, I was working as a barista at a local coffee shop, Kimball Espresso. Both my sister and I spent years behind the bar there, serving locals their favorite caffeinated beverages. When we received the news that the coffee shop owners were being forced to close their doors (thanks to a Starbucks opening up just 30 feet away) we were devestated.
Thankfully, my parents & their entrepreneurial spirits decided to take ownership of the coffee shop, now called Kimball Coffeehouse and move it a few blocks down the road. Now, we’ve transformed the business to be a local music venue as well as a comfortable place to have a cup of coffee or a bite to eat. Every weekend we host local bands and musicians. I now work as the booking and events manager at my families business, and it’s been the greatest thing we have ever done.
I’ve performed at hundreds of events and venues over the past 8 years, and I wouldn’t change a thing. It would be an honor to provide musical entertainment at your wedding or event!
Whew, that was long winded. If you made it through – kudos! Let’s talk!
